The 12 days of Christmas

Ah, don't you just love when you have been outside the whole day, doing errands, raking leaves ( or shoveling snow) or simply enjoying the cold weather, and when you get home, sit down on the sofa a blanket warming up your feat, reading a nice book and drinking a cup of steaming cocoa with marshmallows? Yeah, that's me... when I'm dreaming, because the only think I've seen next to a cup of steaming cocoa is a cup of steaming Teraflu, the blanket was necessary I admit, because I've been having chills allover, and the nice book was substituted with a box of tissues, which although made from the same material as books ( different form of paper) are not nearly as much fun to go through!

I've been sick, sick and sick again these 3 weeks and I thought it will never end! I'm just happy that I'm feeling better now and I can share with you the million things I did while I was sick. Don't be surprised, you should know by now that probably I'll have some "work" to do on  my deathbed too! :-)

So here I go:

...On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me

- one woodburned holder for my keys...

Equipped

As strange as this might sound, that's the name of this drawing and it's my favorite by far from all the ones I finished in the last couple of months.

I love the movement  in it and the only thing I regret is that I didn't have the Copic markers when I was making. It's also smaller than it has to be in my opinion, but this is fixable. I just hope we all recover from this terrible virus at home, because it's been going on for 3 weeks already! I have tons of work I need to finish and being bed ridden is not helpful.

There you go, "Equipped" for you!

A giveaway down in the meadow!

I have written before about my virtual friend Suzanne and her blog Down in the Meadow, but today I've found out she is hosting a giveaway that I simply cannot pass!

http://downinthemeadow.blogspot.com/2010/11/giveaway-for-down-in-meadow.html

She is amazingly creative and she is a wonderful person, so whoever wins ( usually I don't have that luck) will have something absolutely unique made with love!

I wish such luck to all of you!

Woodburning Koi fish

I haven't pyrographed anything for a while, so it took some time to get back on track, getting used to holding the woodburner. We moved the furniture around in the living room ( yeah, I'm one of these that love to move stuff around) and now my beautiful spot that I had for woodburning is gone. Sniff.

I tried couple of different places and it seems on the kitchen island was the most comfortable. I have the plug in the right spot, the light is good and the kitchen island is tall enough to make it comfortable working. The only problem is that I don't have a comfortable chair. We have some old extra tall bar stools but the seat is only wood and it's not comfortable to sit for a long period of time. Maybe I should try something with a a cushion and a back panel...

Anyway, I have been working on a couple of pieces at the same time ( it wouldn't be me if I didn't :-) ), so here is one of them:

This cutting board is meant to be only a decoration piece of course. I have used the design from my first oil painting, the Koi fish if you remember.

It would make a nice present I think, don't you?

Hair

I've been playing around with my Prismacolor markers and while listening to this( and all time favorite):

And this:

I was just doodling and here is what I came up with. For some reason my camera didn't catch the true hue of the paper but this picture I think is closer to the original.

I seriously need to take some classed on how to take pictures of artwork, because I'm having trouble with the colors constantly. Here are couple of different shades of the same one:

I haven't planned for the "design" to be like that. To be honest I didn't know I was drawing hair until I was half way through the drawing. The "heart" shape I don't like very much, but again, it wasn't planned to be there, it just happened. And sometimes things that happen work, sometimes they don't. I like the hair, but I would skip the heart shape if I had to do it again.

It's been years since I drew hair...and this was with a brush tip marker, so it's not as good as I would wanted it to be, but still it's not that bad too. I need more practice and now that I got the Copic markers( post about them coming soon!) it's even more exciting to try new techniques.

Have a very hairy day :-),
